Mission Statement
St. Francis of Assisi Christian Church, SFACC, a church in the Central Rocky Mountain Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), is ecumenical in spirit and affiliated with the Prison Congregations of America network of churches. The church meets at the Timpanogos chapel, at the women’s facility, of the Utah State prison.)
St. Francis of Assisi Christian Church invites prisoners at the Utah State prison to become new followers of Jesus Christ or renew their commitment to grow in Christ. At the church, the prisoners grow in Christ by Bible Study, worship, receiving the sacraments, encouraging one another, and living out Matthew 25:31-40.
They invite their sisters and brothers from outside churches to attend St. Francis of Assisi Christian Church worship services. By hosting those from the outside churches, the prisoners grow in Christ. Those members from the outside churches who worship at the prison, pray for, and encourage the prisoners meet Christ in a profound way, for Christ says, “I was in prison and you visited me”, Matthew 25:36. The support for the prisoners continues when the outside churches offer, for the love of Christ, financial support for St. Francis of Assisi Christian Church. The support is carried a step further, as the outside churches, motivated by the love of Christ, encourage and help released prisoners continue to grow in Christ and learn the skills necessary to successfully adapt to life outside of prison.
